Postdoctor in Bioinformatics: 1. Embryo Epigentics, 2. Aging

Department of Molecular Medicine, Oslo universitetssykehus HF

Oslo University Hospital is Scandinavia´s largest hospital with more than 20,000 employees, and is a major contributor to biomedical research in Norway.

A postdoctoral fellowship in epigenetic computational analysis is now available in the Dahl research group, located at the research section of the Department of Molecular Medicine. The Dahl Laboratory is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral research fellows to lead studies to understand epigenetic regulation and aberrations in 1) early embryo development and 2) in aging and rejuvenation.

The Dahl Laboratory is well positioned for conducting basic research using both mouse and patient material, as well as performing advanced clinical studies. Specific projects focus on the epigenetic reprogramming of early embryo development and its significance for human reproduction. An overarching theme is the understanding of mechanisms and epigenetic information in the passing of life from one generation to the next, building on our recent discoveries (Dahl et al., Nature 2016). Aging related projects have a focus on stem cell aging, rejuvenation after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in healthy humans and cancer. We have a particular interest in the mechanisms of aging and rejuvenation.

Interested persons should submit the following documents:

  1. A concise, single-page application letter, including a summary of scientific work, future interests and motivation for applying.
  2. Curriculum vitae (summarizing education, positions and other qualifying activity).
  3. List of publications. (Submitted manuscripts may also be included).
  4. Copies of educational certificates with grades.
  5. Letter of recommendation or reference letter from previous supervisors/mentors is optional, but considered an advantage.
  6. Contact information of three references that must include former coworkers and supervisors (name, email address, affiliation, phone number and relation to the candidate).

Only applications submitted through the formal recruitment website WebCruiter can be considered.

  • The candidate is expected to be involved in study design and to perform analysis of genomics and epigenomics data from several cell types, such as embryos and purified cells from young and old individuals resulting from e.g. ChIP-seq, DNA methylation arrays, WGBS, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C etc. And if needed, the candidate is expected to be capable of implementing or developing new algorithms to carry out advanced analysis.
Qualifications
  • A strong computational and statistical background (PhD or similar) is required.
  • Previous experience with (epi)genomic data analysis and an understanding of biology will be considered an advantage.
  • Candidates with bioinformatics experience in short read DNA sequencing analysis and genome scale integrative analysis of diverse experimental datasets will be favored.
  • Potential candidates have completed a PhD degree in bioinformatics/genomics or computer science, or similar fields, with one or more publications in internationally well-renowned, peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • For the postdoc position on Embryo Epigenetics, it will be considered an added advantage if the candidate has experience from both wet lab and dry lab work. Depending on the desire and experience of the candidate the research project could involve either computational analysis only, or a combination of wet lab and dry lab work.
