- 서울대∙KAIST∙사노피, 아∙태 지역 최초로 차세대 면역세포치료제 플랫폼 개발을 목표로 공동연구 착수

- 오픈이노베이션을 통해 개발되는 새로운 플랫폼, 간암 등 고형암 치료에서 개선된 안전성과 효능 기대

 

 글로벌 헬스케어 기업 사노피(Sanofi)의 제약사업부문인 주식회사 사노피-아벤티스 코리아(대표 배경은, 이하 “사노피”)는 서울대학교 산학협력단(단장: 박노현, 이하 “서울대학교”) 및 한국과학기술원(원장: 강성모, 이하 “KAIST”)과 차세대 항암 면역세포치료제 플랫폼 (Immune Cell Therapy Platform) 개발을 골자로 하는 공동연구협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

 

이번 공동연구협약은 서울대학교 의과대학 정준호 교수팀이 개발한 신규 항체와 KAIST 전상용 교수팀이 개발한 신규 펩타이드를 서울대학교 의과대학 최경호 교수팀의 면역세포기술을 이용해 면역세포에 결합시키는 것으로 개선된 항암 면역 세포치료제 플랫폼을 개발하는 것이 목표이다.  

 

서울대학교 정준호 교수는 “공동연구팀의 목표는 체내 면역세포가 정상세포를 암세포로 오인하는 것을 최소화하면서 암세포를 특이적으로 공격하는 면역세포치료제를 개발하는 것”이라 전하며, “차세대 플랫폼이 상용화되면 간암과 같은 고형암 치료에서 부작용 발생을 낮추고 치료제의 효능을 개선하는 등 충족되지 못한 요구(unmet needs)를 만족시킬 수 있을 것”이라 언급했다.  

 

KAIST의 전상용 교수는 “아태지역에서 처음으로 진행하는 항암 면역세포치료제 플랫폼 개발이 목표”라며, “국내 학계와 글로벌 제약사가 이번 협력을 통해 파편화된 전문 기술을 결합시킴으로써 시너지를 낼 수 있을 것으로 확신한다”고 말했다.  

 

사노피 R&D의 김상균 박사는 “사노피는 한국 사회의 신뢰받는 파트너로서 국내 제약산업 발전을 위해 다양한 형태의 국내 공동연구협력을 체결하는 등 혁신 신약 발굴의 가능성을 제고하기 위해 오픈이노베이션을 실현하고 있다”며, “지난 2014년에는 그 성과를 인정 받아 보건복지부로부터 ‘혁신형 제약기업’으로 선정됐다”고 말했다. 그는, “ 이번 3자 공동연구협력은 향후 사노피가 국내 및 글로벌 면역항암치료제 영역에 진출할 수 있는 밑거름이 될 것”이라고 덧붙였다.

 Sanofi-Aventis Korea Co., Ltd.(CEO Kyung-eun Bae) pharmaceuticals department of Sanofi, the global health care company, the chief of industry-academic cooperation department in Seoul national university(SNU), and KAIST(President, Sung-mo Kang) made a co-research contract to develop next-generation immune cell therapy platform.

 

This research contract integrates three part of research to develop immune cell therapy platform; 1) novel antibody developed by prof. Junho Chung, department of biomedicine at SNU, 2) novel petide developed by prof. Sangyong Jon, KAIST, and 3) immune cell technique to conjugate these substance into immune cell which is developed by prof. Kungho Choi, department of biomedicine at SNU.

Prof. Junho Chung mentioned "the object of the research group is to minimize misidentifying rate of immune cell between normal cell for cancer cell and develop cancer cell-specific immune cell therapeutics", and "if the next generation platform is commercialized,"

Prof. Sangyong Jon, KAIST mentioned "Our goal is the first development of anti-cancer immune cell therapeutic platform in Asia-pacific region", and "It elicits synergistic effect to merge fragmented professional techniques by cooperation between national academic field and global pharmaceutical company" and "In 2014, we are selected as an 'innovative pharmaceutical company' by the ministry of health and welfare", He also says "This research cooperation will serve as a foundation of global immune cell therapy field to Sanofi".
