바이오제약기업 메디톡스(대표 정현호)가 생명과학 분야의 인재 양성을 위해‘메디톡스 펠로우십 ’장학기금을 KAIST에 조성하고 총 6억 원을 기부하기로 17일 약정했다.
이날 열린 발전기금 약정식에는 정현호 메디톡스 대표이사와 강성모 총장, 김정회 생명과학기술대학장, 오병하 생명과학과 학과장 등이 참석했다.
이번 약정에 따라 메디톡스는 올해부터 10년간 매년 6천만 원씩 장학금으로 기탁할 예정이며, KAIST는 생명과학과 대학원 석․박사 과정 재학생에게 매년 6천만 원의 장학금을 지원한다.
‘메디톡스 펠로우십’은 학업에 대한 열정과 의지가 높은 학생을 선발해 지원하는 장학지원 프로그램이다. 2016년 첫 장학생으로는 김정현, 민광욱, 여인석, 이성령, 이시온 5명의 학생이 선정되었다.
KAIST 생명과학과 동문인 정현호 메디톡스 대표는 “생명과학 분야의 우수 인재 양성에 기여하기 위해 장기적인 안목을 갖고 시작한 ‘메디톡스 펠로우십’의 첫 시작을 KAIST와 함께 하게 된 점을 뜻 깊게 생각한다”며 “앞으로 메디톡스는 펠로우십의 대상자 확대 뿐 아니라 한국 생명과학 분야 발전에 기여할 수 있는 다양한 사업을 펼칠 계획”이라고 말했다.
강성모 총장은 “동문 기업의 지원은 학교 및 학과 발전에 큰 힘이 될 것”이라며 “KAIST 발전과 함께 동문 기업의 발전이 지속적으로 이뤄지기를 바란다”고 밝혔다.
한편 메디톡스는 국내 최초이자 세계 4번째의 보툴리눔 톡신 제제 ‘메디톡신’ 및 세계 최초의 비동물성 액상 보툴리눔 톡신 제제‘이노톡스’와 함께 히알루론산 필러‘뉴라미스’까지 자체 기술로 제조, 판매하는 연구개발(R&D) 기반의 바이오제약 기업이다. 끝.

Medytox(CEO, Hyunho Jung), a pharmaceutical company, raised scholarship fund and promised to donate six hundred million won, on Feb 17.
Hunho Jung (CEO at Medytox), Sung-mo Kang (President of KAIST) and Jung-hoe Kim (Dean of Life science and bioengineering college) participated in this agreement ceremony.
According to this agreement, Medytox will annually donate sixty million won for ten years, and the fund will be given graduate student at department of biological sciences as a scholarship.
‘Medytox Fellowship’ is the program which supports the student with great passion and strong will. Junghyun Kim, Kwangwook Min, Inseok Yeo, Sungryung Lee, and Sion lee were selected as the first recipient.
The CEO of Medytox, Hyunho Jung as an alumnus of KAIST Biological science department said “It is very meaningful that Medytox and KAIST started the first Meditox fellowship together, for training talented student in biological field”, and also, “in future, we will expand recipient of Meditox fellowship but also, start various project to contribute to development of biological sciences in Korea”.
Sung-mo Kang (the president of KAIST) mentioned “Support from alumnus’ company is very helpful for the department and institute” and “I hope that development of KAIST and alumnus’ company continues”.
Medytox is the first R&D based biopharmaceutical company in Korea which develops and sells Botulinum toxin, non-animal Botulinum toxin, and hyaluronate filler.
