동물이 외부 자극을 감지하고 반응하는 과정은 신체 내에 복잡하게 엮여 있는 신경계를 통해서 이루어진다. 이러한 동물의 신경계를 구성하는 세포들은 발생과정 중에 정밀한 유전 프로그램에 의해 만들어진다. 본 연구실은시각 신경조직인 망막을 모델로 신경세포의 발생과 분화, 재생을 조절하는 유전 프로그램을 발굴하고 이를 조절하여 질병을 치료하는 연구를 하고 있다.

Animal’s ability to perceive external stimuli and respond is mediated by nervous networks within the body. The cells that constitute nervous systems are generated during development through highly coordinated genetic programs. Using the retina as a model system, our laboratory investigates the genetic programs that regulate neuronal development, differentiation, and regeneration. We aim to identify and manipulate these programs to better understand neural function and to develop therapeutic strategies for treating the diseases.
